Vergil retains his classic moveset, using Yamato, Beowulf and Force Edge. Jackpotįans hoping Vergil would finally get some new weapons are in for some disappointment. This gives Vergil his own equivalent to Dante’s Royal Guard, which can only mean good things for the Combo MAD community. One thing that is new is Vergil’s block, which is also tied to his concentration.

We don’t know if having full concentration still increases your attack range, but the idea of “play like Vergil” is such a cool mechanic that we’re glad it’s back. In exchange though, keeping your Concentration meter high gets you new moves. This meter punishes foolish gameplay, whereby you lose it for whiffing attacks, getting hits or using the game’s dodge roll. Those who played as Vergil in DMC 4: Special Edition will remember the brilliant new mechanic, his Concentration meter.

Stabbing himself with the Yamato, he releases V and his summons, who clear the screen for you and even get you free health orbs. There’s also the case of his V transformation, which we’re still not quite sure on. We don’t know if Vergil will have his own equivalent of Quadruple-S, Dante’s must-have skill for effective styling using Sin DT. When it’s full, holding down the Sin DT will allow you to access the powerful form.

You can hold down the DT button to consume your meter, charging the Sin DT meter instead. Instead, this transformation is relegated to the Sin Devil Trigger, which works the same as Dante. That being said, it’s a shame to waste the sick new look for Vergil’s demon form. I See A Devil Has Awakened Inside You As Well As is, the Doppelganger can only use Yamato, same as in the boss fight. While both DmC and DMC 3’s Doppelganger abilities allowed you to “program” the double, it’s unknown if DMC 5 will have the same feature. Similarly, the Doppelganger is also Vergil’s Devil Trigger for his playable segments in that game as well. In DmC: Devil May Cry, the Vergil fight there also uses the Doppelganger ability. Circumstances played a large part, as did plot and story reasons.Follow this isn’t entirely new to Vergil.

Plus we immediately get both backhanding Nero as payback, so I think it's fair to say that it's not as if Nero is definitively stronger than either. Sparda was a full demon, and Dante (arguably Vergil) are stronger than he was, so is Trish, and she's weaker than all four (I assume she can't beat Nero). Given the same amount of time and opportunities Nero could match them. They're stronger because they have more experience, and had more time to build up their abilities and arsenals. I think people assuming that just because Dante & Vergil are more demon than Nero, that automatically they're stronger. Nero even moreso than Dante is driven by emotion, and the humanity within him, so even if it was just this one time it makes sense he could beat Vergil because he was for lack of a better term more motivated. And that emotions and love are what drives people to grow stronger with purpose, so it's more like that.

Dante was definitely more joking about nearly dying from a bitch-slap, moreover both were tired and injured from combat, while Nero was riding high from the new power-up.Īnd rather than demon power, it's more like human power? Human direction of demonic power, the series has always asserted that the power of the heart trumps pure destructive potential.
